Hello!

May I begin by sincerely thanking you for deciding to be part of my Analyse experiment. I know all too well how precious your time is. I am attempting to get better at how I spend mine, hence the creation of Analyse; more direct communication with professionals, students, curious minds, and no social media.

I am proud to say that I know many of you in person. You are intelligent, caring, conscientious and driven. Like me, I know you loved biochemistry, physiology, nutritional biochemistry, phytochemistry, pathophysiology and biopsychosocial health during your studies. You may also feel frustrated that you had little time to learn these deeply, and you are correct. There is great pressure to cover these areas quickly whilst at university. There is also the uncomfortable realisation of how much we don't remember, once graduated, or out in practice.

That's why I am here, and why I am creating Analyse. For now, it's a newsletter, but I have so many ideas on how I can support our continued learning together. Rather than taking a year or more to create voluminous swathes of issues, I have decided to just begin. So, if you would like to come along with me, please accept my humble thanks for your interest and patience. I am learning how to write newsletters, decide on the best way to get my lectures to you, etc. I may clunk and fumble along the way ;) I have been a perfectionist for as long as I can remember (can anyone relate?), but polishing something forever rather than taking action is probably my most significant personal development lesson for 2024. Note that each issue should offer more to you as time goes by.

I would really love to hear from you. I know how incredibly hard you work to educate and inform yourself. You look for professionals with unbiased integrity. Many of you have longed to keep learning the medical sciences behind complementary and lifestyle medicine very deeply, without the chaotic time pressures we endure during studies. It is SO NICE to have the luxury of time. That is what I would like to offer. A window of time each week, where we learn deeply together. No fads, no cyclical health headlines on repeat decade after decade. I'm into my third decade as a health professional, so I absolutely recognise this, do you? It's annoying and I think a little belittling, many consumers of healthcare are wiser than what's on offer. Here is a little taste of what I have planned. I love etymology, so its a bit of latin for now :)

  • Delibero: To weigh well and consider maturely.
  • Discite: To learn.
  • Studium: To research.
  • Diaita: Way of Living or Way of Life.
  • Legere: To read, gather or collect.
  • Audite: To listen.

If you have anything you would like to share, please let me know. I'm very grateful you choose to read and learn from my work interests. Let me know your questions. I read them all, doing my best to incorporate these into future issues and lectures. I don't take your time for granted. Thank you! If Analyse was forwarded to you, and you're not subscribed yet, please consider doing so below.

Thank you so much, and be well,

-Annalies

I write Analyse for clinicians who ask "yes, but why?"

Analyse is the evidence-based clinical newsletter for health professionals and the science-minded who need more than protocols. It's for those of us who suspect current healthcare models aren't giving practitioners or patients the full picture. Every issue travels deeply upstream, into biochemistry, physiology, and the mechanistic first principles that explain the clinical WHY beneath what we're seeing in practice every day. Written by a Fellow in Lifestyle Medicine, Medical Scientist and Naturopath, Analyse is for anyone who needs the full meal of robust knowledge, not a protocol sheet. If you've ever looked at a result, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan and known something was missing, please join us. Archive below.
